india, bhubaneswar
In 2011 I went to India as part of a fellowship program to teach Global Leadership to secondary students in the northeast city of Bhubaneswar, Orissa. We taught one class at a private school and another at a subsidized school for tribal students and ended up bringing them together for a final project that would have transformational impact on all of us.
The layers of color, grit, history, stories, hardship, disparity, diversity, and love that are India are near impossible to describe. The experiences I had in my few months there are infinitesimal- places, people, paradox. It took me the last two days to decide that I can’t do it justice here but I can at least honor it by sharing just a few of these moments that burrowed into my soul and being.
This first batch is from around the state of Orissa, explorations and day trips in between teaching. While I don’t share any pictures of the students, their energy and ambition still inspire me to this day. And to my adoptive family and wife-by-arranged-marriage in Bhuby, I am forever changed by you.
